How personal care works with us

Personal care is the help that lets someone stay in their own home when the everyday has become hard: the shower, the buttons, the stairs, the tablets. Done well, it is calm, unhurried and private, and the person stays in charge of how it happens.

Every visit follows a written care plan agreed with the person and their family, so a new carer on a holiday week knows that Dad shaves before breakfast and Mum wants her blue cardigan. Medication is prompted from the pharmacy blister pack and recorded at each visit, and the family can see the record whenever they ask.

Visits start at 30 minutes, but we will not plan a wash and dress into less than 45. Rushing personal care is how falls happen.

What it includes

  • Getting up, washing, showering and shaving
  • Dressing, hair and teeth, the way they like it done
  • Medication prompts, checked against the chart and recorded
  • Help to the toilet and continence care, with dignity
  • Breakfast, a hot drink and a jug of water left in reach
  • Getting ready for bed and settled for the night

Often right for

  • Someone coming home after a hospital stay or a fall
  • People with arthritis, Parkinson's or a stroke
  • Anyone who has started missing tablets or meals

“They wanted to stay together in their own house. Two visits a day for each of them has made that possible for two years, and the office always picks up.”
