How dementia care works with us

Home is the place where someone living with dementia knows where the kettle is. Our dementia care is built around keeping it that way: the same carers, the same times, the same cup.

Before care starts we spend time with the family on a short life story: work, places, people, the songs they know the words to. Carers use it every visit. A conversation about the shop they ran for forty years goes further than any reminder.

All our dementia carers complete specialist training before they start and every year after. As needs grow we add visits, nights or live-in care with the same team, so the person never has to start again with strangers.

What it includes

  • The same two or three carers, at the same times each day
  • A routine built around their life story, habits and music
  • Meals, drinks and medication, gently prompted and recorded
  • Help with washing and dressing when it becomes hard
  • Walks, hobbies and familiar outings to keep the day full
  • Regular notes for the family, and a call if anything changes

Often right for

  • Someone with a diagnosis who is still happiest at home
  • Families worried about meals, tablets or wandering
  • Couples where one partner is caring for the other
